Ganryujima

Ganryujima aims to make BUJUTSU a competition, so as expected, it has to have rules and start with a referee call. We recognize that there are limits for making BUJUTSU a competition. Without rules or with a huge difference in body weight between your opponents, trying to win honorably is the spirit of BUDO. Just to prove their strength like exchanging blows by monsters is not enough. We want to pursue something beyond that.

In short, the concept of “Ganryujima” is an intention of BUJUTSU. In addition, fighters with a spirit to show a honorable fight = BUDO, will prove a crucial difference between our events and other martial art events.

WAKO quickly established official rules and regulations, incorporating hand and leg techniques for amateur fights with a focus on safety. This marked the official adoption of the term “kickboxing,” with WAKO positioning itself as the world’s authentic Kickboxing Federation.

In 1977, Eric Romeas helped promote a ‘European Championship’ in Marseille’s Salle Vallier, pitting Frenchman Dominique Valéra against Norway’s Skog. Even if the sporting result wasn’t there, the popular and media success was, with a packed house and a broadcast on France2. From then on, Erick developed a taste for promoting fist-fighting sports. Completely self-taught, and with the fervent support of his wife MARIE FRANCE, who was just as passionate, Erick developed full contact, kick boxing and Thai boxing in France, notably at the Palais des Sports in Marseille, where some of the best fighters in the world competed in some of the most memorable bouts.

Founded in July 2011, WGP Kickboxing is the leading professional kickboxing circuit in Latin America that promotes a series of events in the sport across the continent. Headquartered in São Paulo, the organization was founded by Paulinho Zorello, son of former heavyweight world champion, Paulo Zorello.

The intention was to bring together the best Latin American kickboxers in a regular circuit of competitions, giving them the chance to compete at a high level, in a fair format with opportunities for all.

Taking advantage of the opportune moment when athletes from various modalities were following a natural migratory flow to MMA, after the so-called “boom” of mixed martial arts, WGP was created. The event was initially created opting for the “K-1 Rules”, one of the three ring modalities of Kickboxing, whose rules favor the dynamics and fluidity, with maximum efficiency of fights with punches, kicks, knee strikes, with clinch work (grappling) being limited.
